Lab Retreat 2011 to Regenstauf

16.09.2011

This year’s lab retreat was different from all the ones before. At Schloss Spindelhof in Regenstauf, we did not discuss so much about data from individual projects, but rather analyzed challenges and perspectives in our four main research areas: ALS/FTLD, AD, PD and prion disease.

We were very glad to have four excellent keynote lecturers with us, namely John Collinge (University College London), Christopher Dobson (University of Cambridge), John Hardy (University College London) and Caroline Vance (King’s College London). Based on their fantastic lectures and presentations prepared by graduate students from the Institute, we intensively discussed scientific research in the different disease areas from various angles.

The scientific part was rounded off by a talk by EMBO Journal Editor Isabel Arnold and an evening lecture on experimental stroke research by Nikolaus Plesnila (soon to be found at the Institute for Stroke and Dementia Research in Munich).

For team building purposes, we further constructed rafts and finally had a fun regatta down the river Regen. In summary, it was a really productive lab retreat.
